Coop Companion

A show record app for poultry exhibitors

Coop Companion keeps a show log for APA and ABA exhibitors: every show, class, variety, and award, with the points and starred wins you enter totaled by bird, season, and variety, right next to the pens and pedigrees those birds came from.

What the show log records

Each show gets one record: its name, date, location, and sanction (APA, ABA, both, or unsanctioned), the APA and ABA meet level, the entry deadline, the entry fee, and a link to the premium list. Under it, you add an entry for every bird you showed: the bird from your roster, its breed, variety, and size, its sex class (cock, hen, cockerel, pullet), its class, the highest award it reached (from 1st place up through Best of Variety, Best of Breed, and Champion), how many birds were judged in the class, the judge, and your remarks.

Then you record what the show report says: the APA points, whether it was an ABA starred win, and any breed-club points. Each one is kept separately, because the APA, the ABA, and breed clubs keep separate scoreboards.

Season, bird, and variety totals

Every season gets a summary of its shows, entries, APA points, and ABA starred wins, and the app totals your APA points by bird, for the season and lifetime. That part works on every plan, for up to 3 shows and 10 entries a season.

The Show plan adds totals by variety. That matters because, per the APA, Grand Master Exhibitor is 200 points in one variety of one breed, so a lifetime total alone won't tell you how close you are. Breed, variety, and bantam or large fowl are grouped together, so a White Plymouth Rock bantam and a White Plymouth Rock large fowl are counted separately.

Title progress, from the points you enter

On the Show plan, title progress tracks your entered numbers against the published thresholds: APA Master Exhibitor (300 points), Grand Master Exhibitor (200 points in one variety of one breed), and Hall of Fame (1,000 points), and ABA Master Exhibitor (20 starred wins) and ABA Master Breeder (20 starred wins in one breed and variety, over at least five years). Starred wins are counted by breed and variety, along with how many seasons they span.

The app does not calculate official points and is not affiliated with either organization. It never fills in a points value for you. A line is marked "reached by your entries" when your own numbers meet a threshold, never "earned" or "awarded". The APA counts points only while your membership is current, and the ABA counts starred wins only while your dues are paid, so check the official listings each year. Our guide to the APA/ABA exhibitor award programs explains the rules and links to both organizations.

Club ledgers, coop cards, and printable records

Breed clubs often keep their own points, and the rules vary. On the Show plan you can set up a club point ledger for each one, write down its rules and threshold, and assign entries' club points to it.

You can also attach a photo of the coop card to an entry (photos stay private), and print a season summary PDF (shows, entries, totals by bird and variety, starred wins, club ledgers, and title progress) or a show record PDF for a single bird. Every page says it is based on the points you entered.

Never miss an entry deadline

Add a show's entry deadline and it goes on your show calendar, a month-by-month list of upcoming shows and deadlines. Coop Companion emails you 7 days and 1 day before entries close unless you turn it off for that show. The calendar and the reminders are on every plan.

From breeding pen to Champion Row to buyer

Show birds come out of breeding programs, so the show log sits next to the rest of your records: breeding pens with their cock and hens, hatch runs with fertile counts and hatch rates, band history, and lineage and pedigrees. When a bird places, that placing lives with the bird, not on a separate sheet.

Turn on a bird's public pedigree page and its pedigree and show placings get a shareable link you can paste into a sale listing. When you sell hatching eggs or birds, the sales ledger keeps buyer records and exports NPIP-ready paperwork.

What it costs

The free plan includes one active hatch with candling and lockdown reminder emails timed to your species, one breeding pen, a flock roster, an egg log, pedigrees and public pedigree pages, the show log for 3 shows and 10 entries a season with the show calendar and deadline reminders, and the 4-H export. The Show plan is $8/mo or $69/yr. It removes the season cap and adds variety totals, title progress, club ledgers, coop-card photos, and the season and bird PDFs, plus everything in Breeder (unlimited pens and hatches, the NPIP-ready sales ledger).

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app to track poultry show points?
Yes. Coop Companion's show log records each show, bird, class, variety, and award, plus the APA points, ABA starred wins, and club points from the show report. It totals what you entered by bird and season, and on the Show plan by variety, with progress toward APA and ABA titles.
Does Coop Companion calculate official APA or ABA points?
No. Point values are set by the APA and depend on the meet level, the award, and how many birds were shown. You enter the points from the show report and Coop Companion totals them. The APA and ABA keep the official totals.
Does it count ABA starred wins?
Yes. You tick "ABA starred" on an entry when the ABA counted it (best or reserve in a class of 100 or more birds). Season totals count them on every plan. The Show plan counts them by breed and variety, with the seasons they span, for Master Exhibitor and Master Breeder progress.
Can I see my points by variety for Grand Master?
Yes, on the Show plan. It totals the APA points you entered by breed, variety, and bantam or large fowl, and shows your top varieties against the 200-point Grand Master threshold.
Can I share a bird's show record with a buyer?
Yes. Turn on a bird's public pedigree page and you get a link that shows its pedigree and its show placings, which you can paste into a sale listing. Judge, remarks, and coop-card photos are never shown there.
Can I use the show log for free?
Yes. Free and Breeder both log 3 shows and 10 entries a season, with season and per-bird totals, the show calendar, and deadline reminder emails. Your 4-H record PDF includes them too.
How much does the Show plan cost?
$8 a month or $69 a year. It includes everything in the Breeder plan, an unlimited show log, and the show tools: variety totals, title progress, club ledgers, coop-card photos, and printable season summaries. The hatch tracker with reminder emails stays free on every plan.
Can I start free and upgrade before show season?
Yes. Start on the free plan with one hatch, one breeding pen, and up to 3 shows a season. Everything you log stays in your account when you upgrade to Breeder or Show.
