AOSB breeds

All Other Standard Breeds — Ameraucana, Araucana, and the Oriental games and long-tailed ornamentals.

AOSB stands for All Other Standard Breeds, a large-fowl class that serves as the home for standardized breeds that do not fit the geographic or type-based groupings of the other classes. It is one of the most varied classes in the show hall, ranging from colorful egg layers to long-tailed ornamentals to powerful upright Oriental game fowl. Because membership is defined by exclusion rather than a shared trait, keepers should study each breed on its own terms.

The class includes the Ameraucana and the Araucana, both known for laying blue eggs, with the Araucana further distinguished by its tufts and rumpless build. Ornamental members such as the Sumatra, with its flowing black plumage and long tail, and the Phoenix, bred for extremely long saddle and tail feathers, add striking display birds. The Oriental games form a notable subgroup: the tall, muscular Shamo, the hard-feathered Malay with its upright carriage, and the sturdy Aseel, all of which descend from ancient fighting stock and are kept today strictly for exhibition and preservation.

Care varies widely across the class. Blue-egg breeds are generally hardy and popular with keepers who want colorful egg baskets, while long-tailed ornamentals need clean, spacious quarters and careful handling to protect their plumage. Oriental games can be assertive toward one another and are best housed with space and separation. Exhibitors should tailor conditioning to the individual breed, since a Phoenix, an Ameraucana, and a Shamo are judged against entirely different ideals of type and feather.
